Injury of tissues and organs due to cell death. Characterised by a threshold dose and an increase in the severity of the reaction as the dose is increased further. Also termed ‘tissue reaction’. In some cases, deterministic effects are modifiable by post-irradiation procedures including biological response modifiers.
