A type of chromosomal abnormality that occurs when chromosomes break and the fragments completely rejoin to other chromosomes. There are many structurally different types of translocations and they are not specifically induced by radiation. Translocations in peripheral blood lymphocytes are used as a biomarker of exposure for the purpose of long-term retrospective dosimetry
