A security screening device using ionising radiation by measuring the radiation scattered from an object to create an image. The radiation source and the detector are located on the same side of the object.

A security screening device using ionising radiation by measuring the radiation scattered from an object to create an image. The radiation source and the detector are located on the same side of the object. Backscatter detection systems are used to screen people, whereas transmission detection systems are used to screen cargo.
