A patient dose estimate for computed tomography (CT) scans that considers corrections based on the size (diameter) of the patient using linear dimensions measured on or determined from the patient or on patient images. The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Report 204 (2011) bases SSDE values on the CT dose index (volume) reported on CT scanners but future modifications may include SSDE correction factors based on attenuation data of the patient acquired during the projection scan(s) of the scanned patient.
