The numerical value of kerma approaches that of the absorbed dose to the degree that charged particle equilibrium exists, that radiative losses are negligible, and that the kinetic energy of the uncharged particles is large compared with the binding energy of the liberated charged particles. Kerma is sometimes used as an approximation to the absorbed dose.

Kerma is sometimes used as an approximation to the absorbed dose. The numerical value of kerma approaches that of the absorbed dose to the degree that charged particle equilibrium exists, that radiative losses are negligible, and that the kinetic energy of the uncharged particles is large compared with the binding energy of the liberated charged particles.
