Cardioverter-defibrillator

A battery powered device typically implanted similarly to a pacemaker, which can monitor heart rate and rhythm and deliver electrical therapy such as shocks in response to sustained ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation as specified by the cardiologist. (Adapted from ICRP Publication 120, 2012)
