Intervention Level

A level of avertable dose at which a specific protective action is taken in an emergency or a situation of chronic exposure. Its role was replaced, in the 2007 recommendations of the Commission, by that of the reference level, applied to the residual dose. Now the intervention level plays a more minor role in some situations to trigger a particular protective option using operational intervention levels (OILs), which are expressed in quantities that are directly measurable.
