Field-size effect (Volume effect)

The dependence of normal tissue damage on the size of the irradiated area (particularly in skin); in modern literature, typically referred to as the ‘volume effect’. Larger field sizes lead to more scattered radiation, which increases the dose in a specified volume. (Adapted from ICRP Publication 118, 2012)
