All the tasks to be performed before the actual radiation delivery is initiated. Treatment preparation is sometimes called ‘treatment planning’ in a broad sense and includes patient immobilisation, patient data acquisition, combined or not with virtual simulation, image segmentation and structure delineation, and beam definition and optimisation of the dose distribution (sometimes called ‘dose planning’).
