A qualitative term to mean relatively low level of dose, typically refers to doses lower than 100 mSv (or 100 mGy for low LET radiation) based on knowledge of radiation effects (UNSCEAR 2012). In medical imaging procedures, low dose usually refers to 10-100 mSv for adult patients or even a lower level for pediatric patients. For the protection of the public from environmental exposure, low dose usually refers to a level around natural exposure (i.e. a few mSv in one year).
