The value of absorbed, equivalent, or effective dose that is applied to exposure of individuals in order to prevent the occurrence of radiation-induced tissue reactions or to limit the probability of radiation-related stochastic effects to an acceptable level. Dose limits apply to exposures from regulated sources only; it does not apply to medical and environmental exposure.
