Genetic recombination in which nucleotide sequences are exchanged between two similar or identical molecules of DNA. Cells use HR to repair DNA double strand breaks induced in S and G2 phase of the cell cycle by copying the intact counterpart of the sister DNA strand. HR is potentially error-free.
