Quantities used in practical applications for monitoring and investigating situations involving external exposure. They are defined for measurements and assessment of doses in the body. In internal dosimetry no operational dose quantities have been defined that directly provide an assessment of [[equivalent dose]] or [[effective effective dose]]. Different methods are applied to assess the equivalent or effective dose due to radionuclides in the human body. They are mostly based on various activity measurements and the application of biokinetic models (computational models).
