The cumulative exposure from breathing an atmosphere at a concentration of 1 working level (WL) for a working month of 170 h. In the case of radon, 1 WL = any combination of the short-lived progeny of radon in 1 L of air that will result in the emission of 1.3 ⋅ 105 MeV of potential α energy. 1 WL = 2.08 ⋅ 105 J m-3.
