Glossary Icon-2.png

A type of chromosomal aberration specifically induced by ionising radiation and used as a biomarker of exposure for the purpose of short-term retrospective dosimetry. Ring chromosomes are analysed in peripheral blood lymphocytes either together with dicentric chromosomes or alone after very high radiation doses when chromosomes are prematurely condensed by the technique of chemical PCC (premature chromosome condensation).
